Analysis of Research Trends about Burden of Caring for Senile Dementia Patients in Korea
Yoo Seung-Yeon

Abstract
This study analyzes the research trend about burden of caregiving for senile dementia patients in Korea and suggests directions for future studies in this field. 220 researches from 1993 to 2018 were analyzed. Among the 220 studies, 137 were for thesis studies for a degree, 83 for academic journal. There were 165 quantitative studies, 11 qualitative studies and 44 other type studies. The most common research design was a correlational study, and most research had examined the relationship between caregiver characteristics and caregiving burden, and the results showed that burden had negative correlation with positive concepts(social support, coping etc.) and had positive correlation with negative concepts(depression, anxiety etc). Experimental studies and qualitative studies have been conducted in minority, but there have been many review articles characteristically in other studies. The most commonly used measurement tools were Zarit & Zarit(1987) and Novak & Guest(1989). Future research for caregiving burden need to move forward from the simple survey study to more diversity approaches like qualitative study, tool development study, program development study and multi-disciplinary research suitable for recent Korea situation.
